How To Apply

Becoming A College Boy Begins Here

Submitting your application to high school is a red-letter day. From wherever you apply in the country – and the world – we aim to make the application process as simple as possible. No matter your strengths and talents, we invite your application and hope to welcome you into the rich Maritzburg College community.

Whether you are hoping to start school in Form 2 (Grade 8) or looking to join the school community in Form 3 to 6 (Grades 9 to 12), everything you need is on this page. Take a Tour

We invite you to visit us at Maritzburg College, explore our campus, meet our staff and boys, and get a feel for the school. Book a tour, find out more about virtual and physical open days, and enquire about the annual boarder sleepover.

Complete an Online Application

All applications are made online. Detailed instructions are available on the admissions process document. Make sure you read the document carefully, and scan all supporting documentation in advance of making your application.

Acknowledgement of Application

Once your application has been submitted, a copy will be forwarded back to you via email. Please check for any errors. After this, we will be in contact if we require any additional information.

Notification of Acceptance / Non-Acceptance

Our Admissions Committee meets sporadically to discuss all applications. Parents are emailed shortly after the relevant meeting. Acceptance is provisional pending payment of a deposit and completion of acceptance documentation.

Acceptance Deposit

If your son is accepted to Maritzburg College, an acceptance deposit is payable within one month of notification of acceptance to secure admission.

Get Ready for College Life

Preparation for College life is an exciting time. School uniform requirements and textbook lists will be emailed to parents in advance of the start of the school term. Get in touch if you require any information before your son’s first day of school.

Important Admissions Information

Our admissions team at Maritzburg College aims to provide as much information as possible for you to have a seamless application process. Every year, we receive over 700 applications from over 160 schools and we only accept around 40% of day boys and boarders who apply. Kindly take note of the following information:

  • Applications for Form 2 (Grade 8) open at the start of a boy’s Grade 6 year and close in the February of his Grade 7 year. We recommend submitting his application during his Grade 6 year.
  • Applications for all other forms (Grade 9 - 12) may be made at any time of the year. Acceptance for the following year will only be confirmed in the Fourth Term.
  • No printed or emailed admissions will be accepted.
  • Late admissions will only be considered if places become available.
