Goldstones Project

Maritzburg College together with the College Foundation are embarking on an exciting landmark development on our hallowed Goldstones. 

The first phase of this project was completed just before Reunion 2022 weekend and saw the completion of the renovation of the old scoreboard and ablution facilities, as well as the addition of a state-of-the-art First Aid centre, with a function room above looking onto both Pape’s Astro and Goldstones.

On Wednesday 26 October, College held a very special event on our campus; the naming of our beautiful new First Aid facility on Goldstones as the “Philip Nel Pavilion”. This paid tribute to College’s head prefect and captain of the First XV in 1921, and later captain of the 1937 “Greatest Springbok” team.

A large number of the extended Nel family and friends gathered at the pavilion above Goldstones for the unveiling by Piet Nel, son of Philip Nel and College’s headmaster, Dr Chris Luman.

Additional upgrades included improvements to the existing home change room in the Kent Pavilion, which has been increased in size and has improved functionality for our teams.

Maritzburg College continues to progress in many areas, with an ever-increasing number of sporting teams participating across our many different sporting codes every weekend. This trend does come with its own challenges as the school’s facilities need to cater for these increasing numbers.

The feedback from our OCs who were at Reunion and took time to visit the new facility was overwhelmingly positive…

Phase 2 of the project is continuing and while all our lockers have been sold, you can still donate towards this project, and have your name (or even a group name) on the board at the entrance to the changeroom.

For a donation of R1 000, your name will go on the “Red” list, for R5 000, on the “Black” list, for R10 000 on the “White” list. For more information, please contact Jenny Baptista at baptistaj@mcollege.co.za

We are also looking to finish off some final touches to the changeroom (projectors, cushions, some memorabilia) so if you would like to get involved in anyway, please let us know.

We are happy to accept debit orders for a longer-term investment (100MillionforCollege brochure) as well as larger donations. 

Section 18A certificates will be issued to all donors to allow for tax deductions.
