Class of 98 award Legacy Bursary

In the lead up to their 20 year reunion the Maritzburg College Class of 1998 partnered with the College Foundation to raise funding towards a bursary for an aspiring College boy.

The bursary will cover tuition for the full 5 years at College and be awarded to a deserving young College boy who would otherwise not be able to afford the tuition costs, who has shown himself to be a worthy recipient and who embodies the characteristics that College would be proud of.

Through a specified campaign directed at the members of the Class of 98, all classmates were offered the opportunity to be a part of shaping the future of this lucky College applicant whose dream is to be a part of Maritzburg College.

The online campaign is being run on GivenGain and donors can also make direct transfers into the nominated bank account.

Through an internal application process the Class of 98 selected Sandiso Dlamini from a shortlist of applicants as the recipient of their legacy bursary.

Sandiso is currently a Grade 7 learner at Merchiston Preparatory School in Pietermaritzburg. He has recently been awarded his Blue Lion Award which is the highest honour that can be bestowed on a learner at the school and is an indication of the high regard in which Sandiso is held.

Upon hearing the news that he had been awarded the Class of 98 Legacy Bursary both Sandiso and his mom were beside themselves with joy and gratitude. Sandiso is brimming with excitement to be joining the ranks of College boys at the start of 2019!

At the recent Reunion Dinner the Class of 98 gathered for a separate presentation ceremony where Sandiso was introduced to the guests and reuniongoers and presented with the formal bursary award.

Shaun Randles (OC1998) took the opportunity to share with guests at the Reunion Dinner that to date R400 000 in commitments had been raised towards this Legacy Appeal. A large percentage of this coming from generous benefactors and supporters overseas who have made their commitment via GivenGain.

The Class of 98 would like to thank all the classmates, friends and family for the support pledged to date and to remind everyone that this campaign is still active with another R200 000 to raise towards the goal of R600 000.
