"Maritzburg College afforded me some of the fondest memories of my life & a lifetime of mates. More importantly it gave me a foundation in life not only for the quality of education, but also for the vital life lessons it espoused. Their ethos of self discipline, commitment, integrity, courage, respect & honesty are values that I still hold dear & practice in my every day life.
Whilst undertaking a guided School Tour during our 20th School Reunion in 2011, I realized that the opportunities afforded to the boys are better now than ever before. The fact that this has been achieved amidst all the turmoil affecting education in our country is a true testament to the commitment & foresight of the people entrusted with the responsibility of charting the future of our great School. Maintaining this legacy, & the future thereof, is a deeply personal ideal of mine & should be to everyone with a vested interest not only in College, but also education in general.
The establishment of the College Foundation gave me the opportunity to put my money where my mouth is. Secure in the knowledge that it wasn’t a donation that would go to waste, but rather be used to uplift & create opportunities that would provide tangible benefits to the greater College community. After all attracting the right caliber, & most deserving, of boys to College is everyone’s business.
Knowing that I can still play a role in the future of College & that my monthly contribution can literally change someone’s life has been a deeply moving experience. Giving back to College is no longer an ideal that is the sole preserve of the super-rich, but one that is attainable for each & everyone of us whose blood pumps Red, Black & White"."
